Africatown healing garden and Bioswale
The Africatown Museum project came about with Mobile Museum of Art and County funding in partnership with Birmingham Southern College Science dept & Southern Environmental center to create an experiential learning garden that evoked the history of Afircatown and its residents past and present.

Site cleared and raised brick planters up!
Masonry work was completed by local expert,
Mr Robert Tucker Cook based on my design. His skill and creativity were top notch.
Each bed was filled with compost then planted with medicinal plants. Bed 1 had european and african herbs Bed 2 was planted with native plants the Africatown founders likely encountered. Additional assistance provided by Ernest Hughes Landscaping.

Signage for many of the medicinal plants was painted by me and installed throughout the garden so anyone on a walk through of the property can learn a little more about the uses of these plants many of which are native to the area.
Turkey Creek Nature Preserve a collaboration between Forever Wild,Freshwater Landtrust, S.T.A.R.T. The City of Pinson, Birmingham Southern College, Samford University and Jefferson County with assistance from The State of Alabama.
Before, dirt parking , hazardous conditions, non point soruce pollution, no plantings or bio remediation in place.
After-Rain water catchement gardens, compost , swale and berm, large erosion resistant boulders , native plantings all help improve water quality for Darte habitat.
